Frequently asked questions
If you can't find your answer here, ask me during the introductory call or on WhatsApp.
Will what I say stay confidential?
Yes. What you tell me in sessions is not shared with anyone without your consent. The exceptions are situations where your life or someone else's is in serious danger, and cases where the law requires information to be shared. We go over these limits in the first session.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance. For cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice and missed appointments, [Cancellation terms: e.g. the full / half session fee] is charged. We'll look at unexpected situations, such as sudden illness, together.
How can I pay?
The session fee is [Session fee], payable by [Payment methods: e.g. bank transfer, credit card]. A [Document type: e.g. official receipt for self-employed professionals (serbest meslek makbuzu)] is issued for every payment. I'll also share the fee during the introductory call.
What do we talk about in the first session?
We talk about what brought you to therapy, your life right now and what you hope for. You don't need to come prepared. By the end of the session we'll sketch out together how we might continue.
How many sessions does therapy take?
It depends on the person and what we're working on. Some people come for a few months, others for longer. We review things together at regular intervals, and you decide when to finish.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Research suggests that for many concerns, online therapy can lead to results similar to in-person sessions. Still, this isn't the same for everyone, and in-person sessions may suit some situations better. We can talk about which fits you in the introductory call.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. Psychologists can't prescribe medication; that is a psychiatrist's role. If I think medication could help, I'll refer you to a psychiatrist. Therapy and medication can go hand in hand when needed.
Do you offer sessions in English or French?
[Session languages: e.g. Yes, I can hold sessions in Turkish, English and French.] Just let me know which language you're most comfortable in when you book or during the introductory call.
How should I prepare for a session?
No special preparation is needed. If you like, you can jot down questions or topics you want to talk about beforehand. For online sessions, a quiet room, headphones and a stable internet connection are all you need.
When should I reach out for therapy?
You don't have to wait until things get really bad. If you've been struggling with the same thing for a while, if your sleep, work or relationships are starting to suffer, or if you simply need someone to talk to, you can reach out. In an emergency, don't wait for an appointment: call 112 in Turkey, or your local emergency number.
